Matt Ward
Drummer for Pipin’ Hot 2003

Matt started his involvement in music when he became a pipe band drummer at the age of 10, competing in his first National Contest the same year. He is currently a snare drummer with the City of Invercargill Caledonian Pipe Band and has been involved in Pipin’ Hot since 1997. He was privileged to attend the 1998 Edinburgh Military Tattoo as part of the band.

Matt has a diploma in music from SIT achieving grade 6 in theory and drumming and was named percussion student of the year in 1999 and 2000. In 2001 he achieved the award of Southland Drummer of the Year.

He has played kit drums in the Musical Theatre Company’s productions of West End to Broadway 1 and 2 and also in Les Miserables. He is also the drummer for the Southland Musician Clubs thearette backing band. Matt has played in local bands including Shoot the Bunny, Marty Astones Blues Band and also in a Jazz Band.

Matt is currently teaching drumming in local schools and at SIT and is looking forward to this years Pipin’ Hot show.
